Pillow fights can hurt. So does sleeping with the wrong pillow.

If you are getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep each night, 1/3rd of your life is spent in bed. For those that have neck and back issues, it is important to ensure that this big chunk of your life is kind to your spine.

The pillow can be a very useful partner in a refreshing, pain-free rest. Choose a pillow that will provide proper neck support and alignment. Aim to keep your head and neck in a neutral position so that your head does not kink too much. Exaggerated neck positions unnecessarily stress joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves. A simple pillow change can fix this.

Pillows aren’t just for neck health. Placing a thin pillow under your belly when sleeping on your stomach can provide your lower back with the support it needs. When sleeping on your side, a pillow between your knees reduces pressure on your back. If you sleep on your back, consider placing a pillow under your knees to reduce lower back pressure.

So stop pillow fighting and find the one that works for you.
