The source of the pain may not even be from the hand. Degenerative, bulging, or herniated discs in the cervical spine can cause numbness, tingling, or even burning in the hand.

Trauma from auto accidents and work related injuries cause obvious symptoms. Less obviously, trauma may trigger a painful condition called complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).
